In that time got them a $250k record deal with a major record label, they make a record with mega multi platinum producer, they get dropped from major label, I stick by them...resuscitate the situation by putting their record out myself and generating a story out of their home- town. Then bring in indie radio staff to help take it to the next level... band gets pressured by independent radio staff who originally partnered with me for my expertise but then out of nowhere decide that they know it all about managment and want control over the whole situation so pulls some conniving moves to make me look like I am the wrong one when in fact I am protecting said band's best interests. Then the band fires me after being told they will lose the $25k indie label deal that the above mentioned indie radio staff has brought to the table. The ironic thing about it is that deal then went away. So all of the drama was for nothing. The band is still convinced that they are going to blow up and that the indie radio staff is the best thing for them since they are getting airplay (3 weeks of plateau spins, no new adds, and 60% overnight play)....no set up of product happening, no connecting of dots, no touring, etc. Now I hear that the major who dropped them may re sign them. Thank goodness I still have paperwork with them in the event that the long shot comes true eh???? Or, should I promote the fact that I am having a blast with my new project Que and additionally about to begin a new music business venture in addition to my executive producing and artist development??? What do I suppose it would be like? Well, in my dreams it would be marvelous; they would both be crazy about me and ask me to join them in bed. I, therefore, would probably get instantly psychotic due to the pressure of choosing between which one of them I should lay my dirty hands on first, since they are both equally mouthwatering irresistable! Supposing I would survive this lifethreatening crisis of a dilemma, we would go jetskiing, have sex, go shopping, have sex, eat sushi for breakfast, have sex, go swimming, have sex, have a pool party, have sex, go skydiving, and then maybe have some sex? In short: Do practically everything wonderful you can imagine, specially the things that (their!!!) money could buy of pleasures, experiences and adventures, except going to sleep. That I would do the entire week after. In my nightmare, on the other hand, they would bring all of their spoiled rotten kids, and it would be a living Hell. Infernal screaming, arguing, yelling, crying, shouting and smelly diaperchanging all over the place. It would be all about nursing and entertaining the little monsters, and Brad and Angela wouldn't even notice my presence, when they didn't mistakingly take me for their nanny. I would probably try to sneak off to my room, swallow a handful of sleepingpills and go to sleep the entire week. And then probably the week after that too. So do I suppose it would be like my dream or my nightmare? And if they lived close, I'd let them know, and I'd pop it 'round within the hour. The only time I'd look in a purse is if I'd found it on the streets and see if any identification, ie: an address to take the purse too. If not then the police station. TRUE STORY: Debbie Harry and the missing purse. Back in 1991, I was the Program Director of KUKQ-AM 1060 Arizona's only Alternative radio station. I also was on-air middays from 10AM to 3PM. Debbie Harry was to perform at a local club, and Reprise Records asked if I would interview her. I said ABSOLUTELY! The only problem was that she would not be able to make it until around 4PM. I asked my drive-time jock if he wanted to do it? He said he was afraid to, so I decided I would stick around and do it during his shift. Debbie and hubby/bandmate Chris Stein came in and we had a wonderful conversation on the radio live. When it was over and they had left, my jock pointed out to me that there was a small leather bag, plain black leather with a white rabbit's foot attached to the zipper. I figured it had to be either Debbie's, the labels representative Nancy Levin, or hey...it could have belonged to Chris. Who knew? So I took it home figuring that I would bring it to the show. When I got home around 6-ish, I threw it on one of the two couches I had in my modestly dumpy house in Tempe. I kicked back to chill until I would leave later to see her perform at the club. The phone rang about 15-minutes after I plopped down to relax. It was a frantic Nancy Levin asking me if I had found a purse/bag at the station. I said "yes" I had. She was relieved, and said that it belonged to Debbie. Holy shit! So for the next couple of hours I am staring at this leather bag, and my mind is running wild. Should I look inside...or should I not? I have this thing about privacy, so I did not touch the bag at all. I just couldn't. I mean, what if there was a lot of money in there, or drugs, or...I don't know? So I did not open it. I brought it with me to the club and Nancy grabbed me and took me back to the dressing room where Debbie was in the middle of putting on make-up. She greeted me, as I handed her the bag and stated "I did NOT open your bag, honestly". She stood up and gave me a kiss and a hug. I walked out smiling, and feeling pretty darn good about myself. The next day I told the story on my show, and for days made a great "radio bit" out of it. The phones lit up like you wouldn't believe with all different degrees of why they would or wouldn't have opened it.- Jonathan L So there you go, that's how this Q of THE WEEK came up.
